How do energetic and athletic people deal with pain?

Although physical injuries regularly occur in athletes everyone will suffer with pain at some point in their life. Surgery may be necessary for some problems. When the pain is still present during or after the indicated treatment or in those situations where a non-invasive approach is preferred, Marcus Pain Institute can provide a program that can work hand in hand with your current treatment to help provide the best possible outcome.

Two sports case studies

The problem: A 25-year-old professional golfer underwent surgery for recurrent shoulder dislocations. After the operation he still had pain at the extreme of his swing. Physical therapy was not effective and he was referred to Dr. Marcus for an evaluation.

The diagnosis: Dr. Marcus identified the painful muscles and suggested treatment using the Marcus Method.

The solution: After a program of Muscle Pain Treatment and a specific schedule to prevent further injuries, M.M.'s pain was cured. Now, he's back to par and competing on the Pro Tour.

The problem: Rachel was experiencing immobilizing lower back pain that prevented her from playing baseball. After numerous attempts at treatment she was referred to the Marcus Pain Institute.

The Diagnosis: Her examination revealed trigger points. The treatment involved muscle injections and physical therapy followed by exercises to restore her restricted range of motion.

The Solution: In less than 8 weeks Rachel's pain had subsided and her range of motion returned to normal. In 2001 she returned to playing baseball again plus she started an NYC-based instructional baseball program for women and girls.
