Dr. Marcus has invented a revolutionary device, Muscle Pain Detection Device (MPDD), that can electrically identify a muscle that is causing pain in any area of the body. This discovery will change the way doctors examine patients in the future. The MPDD will allow physicians to find the source of common but poorly understood pain complaints such as:
Since there has been no way to identify a muscle causing pain in a region, the tests that have been available to demonstrate abnormalities such as MRIs, CT scans, and x-rays, have been inappropriately over-relied upon to produce a diagnosis for the patient's pain complaints leading to treatments that are often inappropriate, unnecessary, and unsuccessful. The widespread use of the MPDD will add valuable information about muscles, the largest but essentially ignored organ system in the evaluation and treatment of pain. This will result in the avoiding of costly, unnecessary tests, procedures, and surgeries and provide a method to eliminate the pain for millions of suffering patients.
An example of how the MPDD will change the life of patients in pain is found in the accompanying film clip from ABC's Eyewitness News*, which shows two patients who were considered untreatable and whose lives were totally disrupted by persistent back and leg pain. These patients are an example of the results achieved by most patients who are evaluated and treated based on an accurate physical assessment that takes into account the role of muscles in producing common pain patterns. Dr. Marcus has worked with the Stevens School of Engineering to produce the MPDD. * - RealPlayer required to view movies; if
